<![CDATA[Introduction: Since academic burnout is one of the major problems of students in various fields of study, the present study aimed to predict academic burnout based on dysfunctional attitudes and experiential avoidance, considering the moderating role of family support in nursing students.Materials&Method: The present study was correlational. The statistical population of the study included nursing students of the Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery of Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences who were studying in 2024 and 224 of them were selected by convenience sampling method. The research tools included the Academic Burnout Questionnaire of Biros (2007), Dysfunctional Attitudes Scale of Weisman and Beck (1978), the Experiential Avoidance Questionnaire of Bond et al. (2011), and the Family Support Scale of Procidano and Heller (2002). Finally, the obtained data were analyzed using SPSS version 25 and with the help of correlation coefficient tests and regression analysis. Results:The results showed that both dysfunctional attitudes and experiential avoidance have a 41% ability to predict academic burnout. Also, the results of hierarchical regression analysis to predict academic burnout based on the multiplicative variable of deviant scores of dysfunctional attitudes and experiential avoidance confirmed the moderating role of family support. These relationships were significant at P<0.001 level. Conclusion: It can be concluded that both dysfunctional attitudes and experiential avoidance can predict changes in academic burnout, and family support can also play a moderating role.Acknowledgments: The researchers wish to express their gratitude to everyone who contributed to the completion of this research.Availability of data and materials: Access to the data is open to all readers of this study.

<![CDATA[Introduction: Clinical education encountered significant challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic in many countries due to the prevailing psychological climate in clinical environments. The inability to provide students with opportunities to gain relevant and appropriate clinical experiences has consequences for both students and the nursing profession. This study aimed to describe the challenges faced by nursing educators at the Sarab Faculty of Medical Sciences during the COVID-19 pandemic.Materials & Methods: This research employed a qualitative content analysis methodology, collecting data from nine participants through semi-structured interviews. Purposive sampling was initiated and continued until data saturation was reached. The data analysis utilized a directed content analysis approach. The research's accuracy, validity, and robustness were assessed using the criteria proposed by Guba and Lincoln. Results: Based on the experiences of nursing educators, the challenges of clinical education during the COVID-19 pandemic were categorized into eight main components: assessment methods, clinical instructors, learners, educational opportunities, educational resources and facilities, educational management, educational objectives, and educational content. The findings indicated that ‘educational management’ and ‘educational resources and facilities’ were identified as the core challenges; deficiencies in supervision and planning, coupled with a lack of protective equipment and restricted educational spaces, had the greatest impact on diminishing the quality of clinical education. Conclusion: The findings of the present study, based on the framework of the qualitative research paradigm model, indicate that educational management factors, educational resources, and facilities are the central categories of the research. This study's results can be used to plan appropriately to improve clinical training in pandemic conditions.Acknowledgments:The authors would like to thank the faculty members of the Sarab Faculty of Medical Sciences for their valuable cooperation.Availability of data and materials:The datasets generated and analyzed during the current study are not publicly available due to the qualitative nature of the data and the need to protect participant confidentiality. However, data may be available from the corresponding author upon reasonable request.Conflicts of interest:The authors declare that they have no competing interests.Consent for publication:Not applicable. This manuscript does not contain any data or images from individual persons; therefore, consent for publication is not required.Ethical approval and consent to participate:This study was conducted in accordance with the ethical guidelines of the Tabriz University of Medical Sciences for human studies (IR.TBZMED.REC.1401.346). The participants’ data were analyzed and reported anonymously and confidentially. The study was conducted in accordance with the ethical principles outlined in the Declaration of Helsinki.Funding:This research was funded by the Medical Education Research Center at Tabriz University of Medical Sciences (Grant Number: 69577).Authors’ Contributions:TZ and FH designed the study. TZ conducted the data collection. TZ and FH performed the data analysis. FH provided study supervision. TZ and FH drafted the manuscript.
<![CDATA[Introduction:One of the main problems in the student period is the issue of strong emotional attachment of people to the opposite sex and the failure of these relationships. Considering the many negative effects caused by the experience of emotional bereavement, the purpose of this research is to investigate the mediator role of alexithymia and self-compassion in the relationship between metacognitive strategies and resilience in students with emotional bereavement.Materials&Methods:The current research is a path analysis correlation. The statistical population is all students of Torbat Jam and Mashhad Azad University who were studying in the academic year of 2023-2024 and had the experience of emotional bereavement. Among them, 216 people were selected by the purposeful sampling method. The resilience (Connor and Davidson, 2003), metacognitive states (Anil and Abedi, 1996), Toronto emotional ataxia (Bagby et al., 1994), and self-compassion (Neff et al., 2003) were measured. The experiment and data analysis were also done using Pearson's correlation coefficient and path analysis methods. Results: The results indicated that there is a positive and significant relationship between metacognitive strategies, resilience, and self-compassion, and a negative and significant relationship with emotional alexithymia. Also, the results of the bootstrap test showed that self-compassion strengthens the relationship between metacognitive strategies and resilience, and emotional dyslexia weakens this relationship. Conclusion: Metacognition strategies, alexithymia, and self-compassion are effective on the resilience of students who have experienced emotional bereavement, and are of great importance in their treatment process.Acknowledgments: The authors would like to thank all the participants of this study.Availability of data and materials: The datasets analyzed during the current study are available from the corresponding author on reasonable request.Conflicts of interest: The authors declare that they have no conflicts of interest regarding the publication of the results of this article.Consent for publication: Not applicable.Ethical approval and consent to participate: The participants were informed that their participation in the study was voluntary. The participants’ data were analyzed and reported anonymously and confidentially. The study was conducted in accordance with the ethical principles outlined in the Declaration of Helsinki.Funding: This research was self-funded by the corresponding author.Author Contributions:The first author contributed to the study design, data collection, data analysis and interpretation, and drafting the manuscript.
<![CDATA[Introduction:Emotional intelligence has an important role in various aspects of people's lives, and the academic achievement index is essential in assessing students' success and evaluating the educational system's performance. This study aims to determine the relationship between emotional intelligence and academic achievement in rehabilitation faculty students.Materials & Methods:The present study was a cross-sectional study that was conducted using a census method on 180 students of the Faculty of Rehabilitation, Hamadan University of Medical Sciences in the academic year 2024-05. The data were collected using a demographic questionnaire and the Bar-on emotional intelligence questionnaire. The mean score of students was used as an index of academic achievement. Data were analyzed by Pearson’s correlation, t-test, and one-way ANOVA using SPSS 22. Results: The mean scores of emotional intelligence and academic achievement among the students were 248.28±17.06 and 16.74±1.37, respectively. A statistically significant positive correlation was found between emotional intelligence and academic achievement (r=0.19, p=0.01), indicating that students with higher emotional intelligence tended to have higher academic achievement. In addition, emotional intelligence was significantly higher in female students than in male students (250.69 vs. 244.98, p=0.03), and female students had higher academic achievement than male students (17.13 vs. 16.22, p<0.001). Students residing at home had significantly higher academic achievement than those living in dormitories (17.13 vs. 16.61, p=0.03). No statistically significant associations were found between emotional intelligence or academic achievement and the other demographic variables. Conclusion: The findings suggest that emotional intelligence should be considered as an important, potentially modifiable component of academic support for rehabilitation students. Accordingly, university policymakers and educational planners could incorporate emotional and social skills training into rehabilitation curricula through structured workshops, life-skills programs, and clinical education. Such interventions may help students better manage academic and social pressures, reduce the risk of academic difficulties, and potentially enhance their future professional performance.Acknowledgments: This article was developed based on the research project approved by the Research Council of Hamadan University of Medical Sciences under project code 45673 in 2024.
<![CDATA[Introduction: The architecture of healthcare spaces is highly complex, and this complexity intensifies when these spaces are also intended for educational purposes. This study introduces key criteria for optimizing architectural design and systematic decision-making in addressing the intricate challenges of designing clinical education spaces in medical facilities.Materials&Methods:In this research, a multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) approach was employed to systematically design clinical education spaces. Key design criteria and their corresponding sub-criteria for medical clinical education spaces were identified. Structured surveys and interviews with stakeholders were conducted to perform pairwise comparisons for evaluating the relative importance of the criteria. The results of these pairwise comparisons were synthesized into a super matrix, capturing interdependencies and feedback among the criteria, ultimately calculating the overall weights and rankings of each criterion. Results: Six key criteria for medical facility design, along with their corresponding sub-criteria, were identified in the studies: functionality and spatial organization, patient-centered/student-centered design, safety and compliance, sustainability and environmental considerations, staff efficiency and well-being, and technology integration. The Analytic Network Process (ANP), a method within the MCDM framework, revealed that functionality and spatial efficiency emerged as the most critical criteria for the design of healthcare/educational buildings, with a global weight of 32%. This finding underscores the significance of efficient spatial planning and workflow optimization. Patient-oriented/student-oriented design ranked second with a weight of 27%, highlighting the priority of enhancing the comfort and experience of both patients and students. Safety and compliance with standards ranked third at 18%, followed by sustainability and environmental considerations at 12%.Conclusion: This research indicates that the most important criteria for designing healthcare/educational buildings are spatial functionality, patient-/student-oriented design, and safety and standards compliance. The findings emphasize the need for balancing these three aspects in the architectural design of healthcare/educational facilities.Acknowledgments:The authors would like to express their sincere gratitude to the medical students of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences and the architecture faculty members of the Islamic Azad University, Shirvan Branch, for their valuable participation in the tests and surveys that made this study possible.Availability of data and materials:The datasets analyzed during the current study are available from the corresponding author on reasonable request.Conflicts of interest: The authors declare that they have no competing interests.Consent for publication: Not applicable.Ethical approval and consent to participate:Although this study was exempt from formal ethics committee approval, written informed consent for participation and voice recording was obtained from all participants.
<![CDATA[Introduction: The crisis of emigration of elites abroad and the need to benefit from the talents and abilities of elites in order to progress and the all-round growth of the country prompted us to investigate the causes of emigration of elites abroad.Materials & Methods: The statistical population of this cross-sectional study was all the students and faculty members of Urmia University of Medical Sciences, 300 of whom were selected by simple random sampling. In order to collect data, a researcher-made questionnaire was used (after determining the face and content validity). In order to check the reliability of the questionnaire, Cronbach's alpha coefficient was used and its value was 0.81. The collected data were analyzed at two levels of descriptive statistics (mean, frequency distribution and standard deviation) and inferential statistics (exploratory factor analysis) using SPSS software version 21.Results:In the study of the role of factors in the migration of elites abroad, the share of the attractions of the destination country factor was 22.352%, the repulsion of the country of origin was 13.574%, the organizational-administrative factor was 13.422%, the Economic-social factor was 10.528%, and the scientific factor was 9.265%.Conclusion:The attractions of the destination country were reported as the most important reasons for elite migration abroad. Examining these causes and the efforts of managers and officials regarding the statistics of laws related to elites can reduce the amount of migration, so it is suggested to examine the attractive micro-factors of the destination countries and to strengthen the weaknesses by following them.Acknowledgments:The authors would like to express their sincere gratitude to all the students and faculty members who participated in this study. We also extend our appreciation to the Research Vice-Chancellor of Urmia University of Medical Sciences for their financial and administrative support.Availability of data and materials:The datasets generated and/or analyzed during the current study are not publicly available due to privacy and confidentiality agreements with participants, but may be available from the corresponding author upon reasonable request.Conflicts of interest:The authors declare that they have no competing interests.Consent for publication:Not applicable.
<![CDATA[Introduction : One of the active and enjoyable approaches to learning and teaching is the use of educational games, which can lead to changes in students’ behavior and academic performance. Therefore, this study aimed to design and implement the Water Quality Management course in the Environmental Health Engineering program using a pantomime-based educational game and to evaluate its effect on students’ learning and satisfaction compared with the traditional teaching method (instructor-led lecture).Materials&Methods: This quasi-experimental study was conducted during the academic years 2023–2024 at the School of Health, North Khorasan University of Medical Sciences, Bojnurd, Iran. The study participants were fifth-semester Environmental Health Engineering students from two consecutive semesters who were enrolled through census sampling and assigned to an intervention group (pantomime-based educational game) and a control group (traditional lecture-based teaching). Data were collected using a researcher-made questionnaire consisting of 20 questions assessing and comparing the characteristics of pantomime-based educational game teaching with traditional lecture-based teaching. Data were analyzed using SPSS software, descriptive statistics, the independent t-test, and the chi-square test. Results:The results showed that the mean score of students in the intervention group (pantomime-based teaching; n = 10), with a mean ± standard deviation of 18.69 ± 3.28, was significantly higher than that of the control group (lecture-based teaching; n = 10), with a mean ± standard deviation of 14.45 ± 2.97. In addition, students overall evaluated the pantomime-based teaching method more favorably than the lecture method. The survey results indicated that 79.5% of the students were satisfied with this teaching method and believed that it had enhanced their knowledge and learning. Furthermore, the mean student satisfaction score was higher in the intervention group than in the control group. Conclusion:The findings indicated that the implementation of this educational approach had a positive effect on students’ mean scores, knowledge acquisition, satisfaction, and enjoyable learning experience. It is recommended that faculty development programs be provided to familiarize academic staff with the application of educational games in educational settings.Acknowledgments:The authors would like to express their sincere gratitude to all students and colleagues who contributed to the implementation of this study and supported the research team throughout the project. This study was conducted as part of a scholarly research project that was selected as a distinguished teaching and learning process in the 1402 Vahid Festival at Bojnurd University of Medical Sciences.Availability of data and materials:The datasets generated and/or analyzed during the current study are not publicly available due to privacy and confidentiality considerations but may be obtained from the corresponding author upon reasonable request and subject to the applicable ethical requirements.Conflicts of interest:The authors declare that they have no conflicts of interest.Consent for publication:Not applicable.
<![CDATA[Introduction:Cardiovascular diseases are one of the most important causes of mortality and disability in the world. Identifying educational needs of family physicians in the field of CVDs improves diagnosis and treatment of CVDs. Unperceived educational needs are one of these needs that are always neglected. This research studies the unperceived educational needs of family physicians working in comprehensive health centers of Tehran province regarding CVDs.Materials&Methods:In an analytical cross-sectional study, 40 physicians working in 8 comprehensive health centers of Tehran province, after completing a questionnaire on the frequency of CVDs and a self-report questionnaire with the aim of assessing the skill level and the amount of training needed in CVDs fields, participated in the clinical scenario test to determine the level of knowledge in CVD fields. All data were analyzed in spss-20 software using descriptive and inferential statistics (chi-squared test). Results:Out of 4017 referrals due to CVDs, HTN (60%) and DM (36%) were the most common. In self-report, the skill level in CVDs was 59%, and the amount of training needed was 90%. "Information of family Physicians" was the lowest frequency of expressed skill level(49.4%) and was the most expressed need for education(96.67%). The frequency of the total scores of physicians in the clinical scenario test was 41.5%. "Syncope and cardiac arrest"(60.1%) got the highest score, and "tachycardia"(20.83%) and "cardiac conduction disorders"(25.67%) got the lowest scenario score. The frequency of scenario scores was not significantly different between urban and rural centers(P=0.07) and was lower than the self-reported skill scores (In Total, P<0.05) except for the field of "syncope and cardiac arrest"(P=0.09).Conclusion:Despite the high prevalence of CVDs and risk factors, family physicians in comprehensive health centers have unperceived educational needs in CVD fields, which should be included in educational programs.Acknowledgments: This study is an extract from the thesis for a master's degree in medical education at Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences.
<![CDATA[Introduction: One of the effective methods for assessing students’ readiness in the field of health is to evaluate the internship program. Therefore, the present study was conducted to evaluate the internship program in the field of health of students at North Khorasan University of Medical Sciences using the CIPP model from the students’ perspective.Materials and Methods:This cross-sectional study was conducted in 2024 using a census method on 210 students of North Khorasan University of Medical Sciences who had reached the health internship stage or were completing their course. A standard questionnaire based on the CIPP model was used to collect data. The data were analyzed using SPSS 23 software. Results:The mean (standard deviation) age of the students was 22.72 (2.08) years. The mean and standard deviation of the students’ health internship program evaluation score were 189.18 and 39.83, respectively, in the moderate range (110-220). In the evaluation of the internship program using the CIPP model, the highest and lowest average scores were related to the context (62.16) and input (28.53), respectively. Conclusion: According to the results of this study, the evaluation of the internship program shows a clear tendency among students towards learning through active interaction with educational tools and equipment, but in some other aspects it has brought weaknesses that should be considered by those responsible for designing and implementing the internship program.Acknowledgments:We would like to express our sincere gratitude to the officials and esteemed colleagues of the schools, hospitals, and comprehensive health centers at North Khorasan University of Medical Sciences.
<![CDATA[Introduction:The OSCE is the final step of the medical school graduate course. Considering the importance of recognizing the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic on clinical study, this essay aims to examine and compare the performance of medical students in OSCE before and during the pandemic.Materials&Methods: The study was conducted in Isfahan Medical School in 2022 using the secondary data of the results from the final OSCE exams, which were carried out in Isfahan Medical School from 30 September (2022) to 17 February (2023), during the pandemic, and from August 2019 to February 2020 (before the pandemic). Data analyses were done with SPSS 16.0, and descriptive and analytical tests were set to compare the mean scores in two groups. Also, students' views on the quality of clinical training during the pandemic were investigated using a questionnaire. Results: The mean score of the OSCE before and during the pandemic (t=1.73 and p=0.08) was not statistically significant; the mean score of surgery, anesthesiology, and pediatric stations obtained by the students who completed an internship and traineeship program during the pandemic were significantly lower than those who did before the pandemic; in addition, the frequency of scores less than 12 before and during the pandemic was 1.4% and 0 at the urology station and 0.7% and 57.1% at the pediatric one, respectively. Considering the Grade Point Average (GPA), before and during the pandemic, 0.5% and 2.9% of the students had a score of less than 12, respectively. Conclusions: The results of this study showed that in cases of pandemic, major and minor departments that are surgical in nature are most affected. The use of simulation and virtual rounds is not enough and supplementary educational programs should be implemented for students as soon as possible.Acknowledgments: The researchers consider it necessary to express their sincere gratitude to all members of the academic staff and experts in the field of educational assistance.Availability of data and materials: The datasets analyzed during the current study are available from the corresponding author on reasonable request.Conflicts of interest: The authors declare that they have no conflicts of interest regarding the publication of the results of this article.Consent for publication: Not applicable.Ethical approval and consent to participate: This article is the result of a research project entitled "Investigating the Effect of Virtual Education on Medical Students' Performance in the Clinical Competency Exam During the Covid-19 Pandemic", which has been approved by the Vice-Chancellor of Research and Technology of Isfahan University of Medical Sciences with the scientific code 240183 and the ethics code IR.ARI.MUI.REC.1401.166.
