Abstract
Introduction: Performance evaluation of faculty members, as a way to promote education centers, has a long history in the management of Universities. Given the diversity of faculty member’s activities, the index of covering all these activities and presenting a fair and factual judgement still remains ambiguous. The aim of this study was to investigate the comments and suggestions of faculties on how to register their activities by a system designed for this purpose in Mashad University of Medical Sciences since 2012.
Method: The present study was carried on faculty members of Clinical Departments of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences in 2014. A comprehensive questionnaire, whose reliability and validity was confirmed was applied to asses the faculty comments regarding the variety of evaluation systems such as hospital information system (HIS), electronic log book, timex, continuing education system, enabling teachers system, survey of students, residents and colleagues, self report or educational experts using likert scale. Data were analysed through SPSS software.
Results: In this study 127 faculty members filled the questionnaire. Thirty percent of whom were male and seventy percent were female. According to attendees’ comments, using educational experts was reported as the best option to register faculty members’ activities. The most reported dissatisfaction was about applying log book, timex and residents and students’ surveying for evaluation.
Conclusion: The results showed that faculty members generally agree with the whole idea of evaluation system. The revision in three areas (of applying log book, timex and students and residents’ surveying) will improve the system quality, increase faculty satisfaction, and make faculty members trust the system.
