With the help of audio abstract, you can introduce your article in simple language, so that a concise summary of goals, methods, findings, and conclusions is provided. The current evidence suggests that publishing audio abstracts can help increase the visibility of articles. This guideline describes the process of producing and submitting an audio abstract for Horizon of Medical Education Development.
General requirements
Audio abstracts emphasize the importance of study. Authors should upload an audio abstract of the study to the journal's site for further promotion.
Technical requirements
- File type: wav or mp3
- Duration: maximum 5 minutes
- Sound bit rate: 64 kbps or higher
- File size: up to 10 MB
Audio Abstract Guideline
- Audio abstract can be prepared by any of the authors of the manuscript, although the first or corresponding author is preferred.
- Audio abstract should be designed in simple language so that it can be easily understood by non-specialists.
- The sound should be clear and with good quality (without noise or environmental noise such as the closing of the door, the sound of car horns, etc.).
- The order and structure of the audio abstract should be adjusted as follows:
A- Introducing the speaker ("I am Dr. ....., a faculty member of the University ...... and I present this audio abstract to the audience of Quarterly Journal of Horizon of Medical Education Development");
B- Mentioning the full title of the article and the research team (names of all authors in the order listed in the article);
C- Mentioning a concise summary of introduction, methods, findings, and conclusion;
- Appreciation, mention of financial support or support from third parties (for example, "Authors are willing to appreciate ….").
Submitting file
It is necessary to send the audio abstracts to the journal's email address (hmed@mums.ac.ir) within 2 weeks after receiving the article acceptance email, with the title "Article xxxx audio abstract".
Useful practical tips
- Record your voice in a quiet room or area.
- If possible, use an external microphone (Bluetooth, handheld, or collar microphone) to reduce ambient noise.
- You do not have to record the whole text at once. You can record audio at multiple times and finally put them together and edit them.
- Remember that the audio abstract is to explain the important points of the article in simple language and there is no need to explain all the details of the study.
- Listen to your audio summary after recording. Will the reader be persuaded to read the full text of the article upon hearing this abstract? Was the audio abstract complete and comprehensive enough to convey the "main point of the authors" to the audience? If the answer to this question is yes, you have prepared a suitable audio summary for the audience.
