Abstract

Introduction: Medical professionalism is one of the nowadays most important debating subjects in medical ethics. It means the preferred behaviours that physicians must have against the patients and the community to bring proper interactions. The problems contributing to the patient-physician relationship is the cause of lots of complaints. Despite so many research in this field, there is a large gap between knowledge and practice and non-professional behaviours are persistent. The aim of this article is to review the related literature and presenting a practical guide for the improvement of medical professionalism.
Materials & Methods: The subject was searched in the databases such as ERIC, PubMed and Google scholar by using these keywords: Professionalism, medical education, medical ethics. Thirty- eight articles were reviewed.
Results: A good doctor not only needs knowledge and technical skills but also proper relationship skills and professional behaviours. To gain this target these options must be mentioned: Designing professional curriculum, determining the general and partial goals, choosing teaching method, proper evaluation, and especially focusing on the dynamicity of this curriculum by using the feedbacks.
Conclusion: To reach the medical professionalism goals and correct breeding of physicians, it is essential that medical professionalism-based curriculum be done in all of the medical schools and repeatedly be assessed and edited.
