Abstract
Introduction: Students' interest in the field of study is an indicator of achieving satisfaction, which leads to academic success and progress, and subsequently success at work. The purpose of the present study was to assess interest in the field of study among final-year clinical students at Shahid Sadoughi University of Medical Sciences, Yazd
Materials & Methods: This descriptive cross-sectional study assessed the interest in the field of study among final year students of midwifery, dentistry, nursing and medicine at Shahid University of Medical Sciences, Yazd,2020. The tool used in this study included the questionnaire which has 2 parts of demographic characteristics and the main questionnaire of interest in education. The data was analyzed using SPSS version 22 and ANOVA، Chi-square and T-Test.
Results: According to the results, 57.8% of the study participants were women and 42.2% were men. The age range of the studied population was between 20-29 years and the average age of the students was 24.18 years with a standard deviation of 2.24 In general, the average interest score in the field of study in dental students was 34.5 ± 3.03, in midwifery students 29.56 ± 4.26, in medical students 23.56 ± 3.51 and in nursing students 24 ± 4.3, which according to ANOVA statistical test had a significant difference (P< 0.05)
Conclusion: Getting to know students' views and their opinions, satisfaction and dissatisfaction and their causes can be helpful in improving the quality and quantity of educational and research affairs in universities. Thus, introducing the proper solutions in this regard seems to be necessary to promote the interest among medical students
