Abstract

Introduction: According to the change of education from face-to-face to virtual education has been associated with challenges, The aim of the present study is to "explain the challenges of e-learning based on the experiences of professors of Qom University of Medical Sciences".
Methods: The present study was conducted with the qualitative content analysis method . 27 participants were selected through purposive sampling among professors working in the faculties of medicine, health, nursing&midwifery and paramedicine of Qom University of Medical Sciences who were involved in e-learning and had rich experience in the subject. Data collection was done using in-depth and semi-structured individual interviews and field notes. Sampling continued until saturation of data.
Results: Based on data analysis, three main themes and nine sub-themes were extracted. The category of challenges related to the teacher (production of content, creation of motivational sterategy, emotional-psychological preparation of the teacher), the category of challenges related to the learner (diminished enthusiasm for learning, diminished adherence to moral principles, desire for anarchy) and challenges related to the structure (weakness e-learning infrastructures, lack of effective evaluation tools, dry and dead interactions).
Conclusion: Recognizing and managing challenges related to the field of e-learning, in addition to reducing the impact of these challenges on e-learning and the resulting learning, can be used to change the infrastructure of educational systems with a traditional approach to a technology-based approach.
