Abstract
Introduction: The purpose of the present study was to investigate the role of shame/deficiency schema, basic psychological needs, and psychological flexibility in predicting addiction to virtual networks in students.
Materials & Methods: The present study was a descriptive correlational research. The statistical population of the research was made up of female and male students of Mashhad city in the academic year of 2023-2024, and 200 of them were selected by available sampling method. The research tools were Young Schema Questionnaires (YSQ-SF), Basic Psychological Needs (BPNS), Psychological Flexibility (P-PPFI), Addiction to mobile-based social networks. Data were analyzed by stepwise regression test and Pearson correlation with SPSS-26 statistical software.
Results: The results of the study showed that the schema of defect and shame (r=0.187, p<0.05), the competence subscale (r=-0.223, p<0.001) and the communication subscale (r=0.242, p<0.001) of basic psychological needs and the avoidance subscale (r=0.297, p<0.001), acceptance (r=-0.236, p<0.001) and Harnessing subscale (r=-0.172, p<0.05) of cognitive flexibility had a significant relationship with addiction to virtual networks. Also, avoidance (beta=0.24, p<0.001), acceptance (beta=-0.25, p<0.001), communication (beta=0.24, p<0.001) and competence (beta=-0.15, p<0.01) predict addiction to virtual networks.
Conclusion: In general, schemas of defect and shame, basic psychological needs, and psychological flexibility are among the factors affecting addiction to virtual networks that should be paid attention to.
