Abstract
Background and purpose: One of the main problems in the student period is the issue of strong emotional attachment of people to the opposite sex and the failure of these relationships. Considering the many negative effects caused by the experience of emotional bereavement, the purpose of this research is to investigate the mediator role of alexithymia and self-compassion in the relationship between metacognitive strategies and resilience in students with emotional bereavement.
Research method: The current research is a path analysis correlation. The statistical population is all students of Torbat Jam and Mashhad Azad University who were studying in the academic year of 2023-2024 and had the experience of emotional bereavement. Among them, 216 people were selected by purposeful sampling method. To measure resilience questionnaires (Connor and Davidson, 2003), metacognitive states (Anil and Abedi, 1996), Toronto emotional ataxia (Bagby et al., 1994) and self-compassion (Neff et al., 2003) were used became. The experiment and data analysis were also done using Pearson's correlation coefficient and path analysis methods.
Results: The results indicated that there is a positive and significant relationship between metacognitive strategies, resilience and self-compassion, and a negative and significant relationship with emotional ataxia. Also, the results of the Bootstrop test showed that self-compassion strengthens the relationship between metacognitive strategies and resilience, and emotional dyslexia weakens this relationship.
Conclusion: The metacognition strategies, alexithymia, and self-compassion are effective on the resilience of students who have experienced emotional bereavement, and are of great importance in their treatment process.
