Relationship between Educational Equity and Academic Burnout among Students at the School of the Health: A Canonical Correlation Analysis

Abstract
Introduction: Educational equity encompassing equal access to educational resources, stands as a fundamental aspect of students’ rights, irrespective of race, belief, color, gender, religion, or socio-economic status. The absence of educational justice can potentially result in academic burnout among students. This study employs focal correlation analysis to examine the association between educational justice and academic burnout among students at the Health Faculty of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences.
Materials & Methods:  This cross-sectional study encompasses the entire students of the Health Faculty at Mashhad University of Medical Sciences during the academic year 2022-2023. Data were gathered via academic burnout (15 items) and educational equity (14 items) questionnaires, administered electronically through the Porsline website with convenience sampling.
Results: The majority of participants were predominantly female (64.1%), single (74.0%), native (66.7%), and held a bachelor’s degree (53.6%). The mean scores for educational equity and academic burnout were 57.18 ± 16.84 (out of 98) and 56.03 ± 9.74 (out of 105), respectively. Canonical correlation analysis revealed a strong negative correlation of -0.962 between educational equity and academic burnout.
Conclusion: The average grades of educational equity and academic burnout of health school of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences students were evaluated at a moderate level. A robust negative relationship was observed between educational equity and academic burnout, suggesting that the absence of educational equity contributes to students’ academic burnout.
