Abstract

Introduction: The advancement of societies depends on scientific progress, driven by research and skilled professionals. Despite strong interest in research among medical students, only a small percentage participate in research activities. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of an online workshop on research methods and article writing in enhancing the research literacy of medical students.
Materials & Methods: The online workshop was conducted in two sessions, each lasting at least one and a half hours. Research literacy was assessed using a questionnaire at the start of the first session and at the end of the second session. Data were analyzed using SPSS software.
Results: Of the 84 participants, 12 were male and 72 were female. The results showed significant differences between pre-test and post-test scores for all questions except question 1 (the necessity of acquiring information) (pre-test median = 50, post-test median = 60, P< 0.001). The change in scores for question 12 (evaluation of sources) was significant in the undergraduate group (pre-test median = 2, post-test median = 4, P< 0.05) compared to other groups. Additionally, the change in scores for question 16 (use of the internet for information dissemination) was greater in the master’s and higher groups (pre-test median = 3, post-test median = 4, P< 0.05) compared to the undergraduate group (pre-test median = 4, post-test median = 4).
Conclusion: The results of this study indicate that the workshop had a significant impact on improving students’ research literacy, highlighting the importance of training in research methods and article writing to enhance students’ research capabilities.
