Abstract
Introduction: Academic counseling to optimize fourth-generation universities and improve the quality of education has received much attention. On the other hand, taking into account the influence of students on the tutor to overcome problems during their studies, this study was conducted to evaluate the academic counseling system of students in terms of the availability, ability, attention, and follow-up of the tutor to solve the needs and problems of the students in Iran University of Medical Sciences.
Materials & Methods:  The present study is a sequential-exploratory combined tool development study. In this study, 91 undergraduate students of different fields of study of Paramedicine faculty were included in the academic year 2022-2023. Information was collected through a researcher-made questionnaire that was designed based on the students' needs, the statements of advisors in various meetings, and existing standard questionnaires. The validity of the questionnaire was checked using face and content validity indicators quantitatively and qualitatively and reliability through InterClass Correlation (ICC). Satisfaction was determined by considering the cut point above 70%.
Results: The average overall satisfaction was 74.96±11.91. The satisfied items were the appropriate time of the consultation, the tutor's familiarity with educational methods, the ability to guide and follow up, the tutor's welcome towards the student's academic progress, the tutor's trustworthiness, respect for privacy, the tutor's attention to spirituality, the effectiveness of the university's counseling unit, the increase in academic progress, and the work experience of the consultant tutor.
